Treatment against excessive sweating in Hamburg
The function of sweating
Sweating is not only a normal reaction of the human body, but also an extremely important one. Sweat is used to transport metabolic end products out of the body. Sweating also helps to regulate body temperature. Together with the skin’s own lipids (fats), sweat also forms the acid mantle of the skin, which protects the body from harmful pathogens.
What is hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis is a condition that leads to excessive sweating. This sweating can occur in unusual situations, such as in cooler weather or without any trigger.
There are 2 types of Hyperhidrosis, the one mentioned in here is the Primary focal hyperhidrosis that refers to excessive sweating that is not caused by another medical condition, nor is it a side effect of medications. The excessive sweating is the medical condition itself. This type of sweating occurs on very specific areas of the body (described as focal areas) and is usually relatively “symmetric” meaning that both the left and right sides of the body are affected similarly. The most common focal areas are the sweaty hands, sweaty feet, sweaty underarms, and sweaty face or head.
Do I suffer from excessive sweating?
If you sweat in a way that affects your daily life, whether at work or in your relationships, and you have episodes of this kind of sweating once a week or more, you may have hyperhidrosis. Hyperhidrosis can be unpleasant. However, different treatments can provide some relief, Botox treatment is one of them.

Can I not sweat at all after Botox treatment?
Treatment with Botox® against sweating does not involve the risk of completely eliminating the important functions of sweating. The therapy is only carried out in the regions affected by hyperactivity of the sweat glands. In total, the body has about two to four million sweat glands, which are closer together in some places than in others. There are only a few areas of the body that do not have sweat glands (e.g. the inside of the lips). Treatment with Botox® for sweating does not inhibit all sweat production or secretion. The important functions such as temperature regulation and detoxification of the body are therefore not affected.
How long does it take for the botox to stop the sweating?
Results start to be noticeable approximately 2 to 4 days after treatment with the full effects usually noted within 2 weeks. At schön skincare we offer a free review from 2-4 weeks after the treatment to reassure that the results were met, if it is found that some areas still need to be treated Botox will be applied with no extra cost.
The effect typically lasts 4 to 12 months, but some studies have found it can last as long as 14 months. Additional statistics from published research studies have shown that repeated treatment with Botox is safe and effective for hyperhidrosis and consistently results in meaningful, long-lasting improvements in an excessive sweating patient’s symptoms, daily functioning, and quality of life.
What should you not do before and after Botox for hyperhidrosis?
When using Botox to treat sweating, you usually do not need to take any special measures in advance. Only nicotine and alcohol should be avoided shortly before the injection therapy. You should also try to avoid taking any medication or drugs that could affect blood clotting. Even after injecting Botox® for sweating at schön skincare in Hamburg, you do not usually need to consider any special aftercare. Regular cooling can support the healing process. Make sure that the cooling pad is not too cold, and at best wrap it in a towel to prevent skin damage.
Side effects and risks for Botox for hyperhidrosis
Hyperhidrosis therapy with botulinum toxin is a low-risk method of treating excessive sweating. It is important that the treatment is carried out by an experienced and specially trained expert in Botox injections. Mild complaints after treatment with Botox® for sweating include swelling, redness, sensory disturbances or haematomas. They usually subside within five to seven days. More serious complications such as infections or temporary paralysis are extremely rare and are usually due to an inexperienced doctor having used the method incorrectly.
What is Botox and further areas of application
Botox is a brand name that is used in common parlance to represent various botulinum toxin preparations. Botulinum toxin is a nerve toxin that inhibits muscle activity. In medicine it is used in very small amounts so that it does not harm the body. Undesirable long-term effects are not known to occur during specialist treatment with Botox®.
In addition to the treatment of hyperhidrosis, Botox® is also used in the medical field for other therapies as well as for aesthetic procedures. These include among others
- Anti-wrinkles treatment
- Teeth grinding treatment
- Against headaches and migraines
- Botox treatment for neurological movement disorders
- Botox against strabismus
